Establishing the Building Committee

The first task is to decide who from your group will form the committee to handle the regular discussions of your facility project. You may decide that your entire planning committee will also serve as the building committee, or you may decide to establish a sub-committee. In any of these scenarios, communication with all those involved should always be central to your mode of operation. For this resource, we will refer to those involved in the facility portion of the project as the building committee.

Once you have your building committee, we recommend that you go through the following steps in the Design Development Process

Ten Steps in the Development and Design Process

  • Securing Professional Expertise
  • Developing the Vision for the Physical Environment
  • Developing the Functional Program
  • Feasibility Analysis
  • Schematic Design
  • Detailed Design Stage
  • Construction Documents
  • Tendering
  • Construction Phase
  • Post-Construction Phase
